My Community Mushroom Smoothie 🍄
Originally published May 7, 2022 | Updated January 2026
May is the month of the mushrooms at Vegezy Land— it’s the month I share all the mushroom recipes that I have created for the year. Here’s the first one for all of you.
What You’ll Need (aka my favorite smoothie things)
Full transparency: these are Amazon affiliate links, which means if you grab something through them, I get a tiny commission and you help keep Vegezy running. No pressure though – use what you’ve got! 💚
- My Community by Host Defense – I’ve used both the tincture and the new powder. Still testing which one I like better in smoothies, but both work.
- Vitamix Ascent X5 – This is the blender I use. It’s pricey but it destroys frozen fruit like nobody’s business.
- Frozen fruit – peaches, strawberries, and bananas (I just freeze my own when they get too spotty to eat)
- Coconut water – or honestly any plant milk works
That’s it. Nothing fancy, nothing you need to hunt down at some boutique health food store.
The Recipe
🍄 1 Cup Frozen Peaches
🍄 1 Cup Frozen Strawberries
🍄 2 Bananas Frozen
🍄 2 droppers filled with My Community by Host Defense (or 1 tsp powder)
🍄 64 oz of Coconut Water
Combine all ingredients & drink. 🌱
Why I Love This Smoothie
This has been my go-to morning ritual since 2022. The My Community blend from Host Defense has 17 different mushroom species, and blending it with fruit completely masks any earthy taste. You literally can’t tell there are mushrooms in here.
What It Does
Functional mushrooms support immune health, and pairing them with vitamin C from the strawberries and peaches makes this a powerhouse morning drink. I make a big batch and it keeps me going all morning.
Powder vs. Tincture: Which Should You Use?
I originally made this with the My Community tincture (the liquid drops), but Host Defense recently came out with a My Community powder version. I just bought it and I’m testing it out.
Here’s what I’m finding so far:
Tincture (what I used in 2022):
- 2 droppers = easy to measure
- Alcohol-based, so it has that slight bite
- More expensive per serving
Powder (what I’m trying now in 2026):
- Blends directly into the smoothie
- No alcohol taste
- I’m still testing how much to use and whether it dissolves smoothly
I’ll update this post once I’ve tested the powder version for a few weeks and can give you my honest take on which one works better in smoothies.
Variations I’ve Tried
- Tropical version: Swap strawberries for mango and add a splash of lime
- Berry blast: All berries (strawberries, blueberries, raspberries)
- Chocolate twist: Add 1 tbsp cacao powder for a dessert-like smoothie
Tips for Making It
- Freeze your bananas when they get spotty – they’re sweeter
- You can use any plant milk instead of coconut water
- If using the tincture, add it AFTER blending since it’s alcohol-based
